Driving Suspension for 4th Atlanta DUI

Were you arrested for your 4th Atlanta DUI?

Getting a 4th DUI in Georgia is not the same as the first three DUIs. A fourth DUI within a 10 year period is a felony. A felony is a much more serious charge than a misdemeanor. With a misdemeanor, you may have a criminal record, but it won't limit your future like a felony will. Felons are not able to buy or own guns. Felons have limited voting rights, and cannot even serve on a jury. Even after serving the required jail time for a fourth DUI, it will be hard to get your life back on track. Your license will not only be suspended, it will be revoked.

The Georgia Department of Driver Services considers people convicted of a 4th DUI to be habitual violators. Not only will your Georgia State Driver's License get revoked for five years, but you'll have to surrender all your license license plates to the state. If you get caught driving on a revoked license as a habitual violator, you'll be charged with a felony criminal violation. Even family members won't be able to drive your car, unless you can manage to get a hardship plate, or transfer title of your car to someone else.

Fourth DUI Driver's License Consequences

If you are convicted for a 4th DUI within a ten year period, there will be no driving permission for at least two years. You won't even be able to drive to work or school, because there is no interlock limited driving permit available for a two year mandatory waiting period. Only after 2 years will you be able to try and convince the court to give you limited driving privileges. This is only after completing DUI school and installing an ignition interlock device.

If the judge grants a probationary ignition interlock license, you will be limited where and when you can drive. You will also have to drive with the interlock device on your car, during the probationary period. Only after waiting 5 years, will you be able to try and get your driver's license back. You will have to complete all the DDS requirements for reinstatement and pay all necessary fees before you will finally be permitted to drive again without the permit limitations and ignition breath machine.
